Chile Advice from Luke Lawrence: “Green in the Morning, Red at Night!”

By Contributing Writer, Darcy Odom

Confident, outgoing, and hardworking are the three words that Luke Lawrence uses to describe himself. If you’ve seen him play for the Sol over the past four seasons, then you know that those words are accurate.

Luke Lawrence has played all 4 years of the Sol’s Existence

Growing up in Albuquerque, Luke was a standout forward for La Cueva High School, earning numerous honors including Gatorade Player of the Year in 2013. After graduating, Luke joined the Sol for their inaugural season before heading off to play at Fort Lewis College with his brother, Zac. Luke spent his freshman and sophomore years at Fort Lewis, returning home to play for the Sol after each. Coming off great seasons with both teams, Luke was recruited by the UNM Lobo Men’s Soccer team for his junior year. Luke seized the opportunity to bring his talent back to Albuquerque full-time.

“I always dreamed of playing for the Lobos when I was little. I would always go to the games with my family.”

UNM Soccer Complex isn’t just the home of the Lobos anymore. The stadium hosted three of the Sol’s home games this 2017 season, and boasts a picturesque view of the Sandia Mountains, which happen to be Luke’s favorite thing about Albuquerque. Another thing our hometown striker loves about his city? The chile, of course. His preferences are clear: green in the morning, and red at night. Don’t worry, though, Luke assures us that he wouldn’t turn either down any time of day.

Luke plans on playing soccer at the professional level after college, but he hasn’t let that get in the way of being a good student. Luke is majoring in accounting, and was named student-athlete of the week as a freshman and sophomore at Fort Lewis, and to the C-USA Commissioner’s Honor Roll as a junior at UNM. After his soccer career comes to a close, Luke sees himself becoming a successful sports accountant.
