Albuquerque Sol Announces Executive Leadership Changes; Ron Patel Stepping Down as President
General Manager to Assume Duties As Club Hits Fifth Anniversary
ALBUQUERQUE, NM: Albuquerque Sol FC announced that Ron Patel is stepping down from his position as President effective immediately. Patel served in this position since 2014, co-founding the club with current General Manager Larry Espinoza. Patel has announced that he will refocus his efforts on a “Soon to be Announced” new project in New Mexico.
“I’m so proud of what our team has built both on and off the pitch,” said Patel. “The organization has never been more strong in the community and the fan base has been incredibly supportive of the club over the last four years. It feels like the club has hit its ‘Tipping Point.’” With Patel’s leadership, participation and engagement from the Sol’s fan base has seen dramatic increases, along with great memories from the players, staff and, most importantly, the fans.
“The time is right for me to move on,” Patel said, “I’m confident that the Sol is in great hands with the operating team assembled.” Patel says he has an opportunity to finally enjoy the games as a fan, rather than working them.
Over the last few years, with Patel’s leadership with the Albuquerque Sol has accomplished:
- ● Incremental attendance growth each year
- ● The largest game in Club history included 2,000+ spectators for its largest statewide televised game.
- ● Huge season ticket membership growth in 2017, and projecting to grow again even more in 2018 over 2017
- ● Community partnerships that have grown year over year
- ● UNITING and ELEVATING the community through the world’s beautiful game, Futbol! (Soccer)
The team has also made an impact on economic development by creating jobs for workers at each sporting and community event. The club also conducted a feasibility study on a soccer stadium in Albuquerque, further growing the Sol’s mission of a soccer culture in the city.
Larry Espinoza, General Manager of the Sol, will assume duties left behind by Patel, as the Interim President of the club.
“Ron and I have been a great team these past four years,” said Espinoza. “I’m proud of what we have built and am excited to see what lies ahead for Ron. Whatever it is, I’m sure it will be good for the community.”
